Fantasy, fun, magic, adventure, bravery, love, adorable friendships, and humor - all included in just over 400 pages of this book!
Ella Durand is an 11-year-old from New Orleans. She is the first conjurer to attend the Arcanum training institute, a magic school in the clouds, where she can learn and become a "Marveller". But, other kids at the school think Ella is odd and can't fit in the school. However, Ella does make a couple of friends in the school, who help her navigate the school life better.
Unfortunately, Ella's family gets blamed for an escaped criminal, and her teacher, Masterji Thakur, goes missing. This makes her life more miserable, but her friends do come in for timely help. Ella needs to find a solution for all this at the earliest to clear her family's name and to ensure that she is not pushed out of school.

This story flies in and out of various cultures and people describing them well and adequately. Ella's friendships are quite adorable and they use their strengths to help each other in times of danger. The story also has mentions of animal companions like Wombies which is very cute and engaging.
I would say this is a middle-grade novel but anyone from an upper elementary age and upwards can enjoy this story.
