A truly hopeful, inspiring, and informative story about a mighty and determined bird!
The House in the Night
The Caldecott Medal is given to the "most distinguished American picture book for children" of the preceding year. This book would no doubt, absolutely fit in that category! This book displays outstanding "Scratchboard Art" by Beth Krommes.

Title: The House in the Night
Author: Susan Marie Swanson
Illustration: Beth Krommes
Publisher: Clarion Books
Light and dark, Black and white, Day and night - monochrome with a touch of gold - I would describe the illustrations in this book in this manner. There are gorgeous, detailed, unique, and exquisite monochrome pictures in this book. These images are accompanied by the gentle and calm poetic words of the author. Indeed, this is a soft and cozy bedtime book for little kids to soothe them to sleep at night. This book would certainly suit little kids, toddlers, and lower elementary kids, as a read-aloud with supportive explanations.
