11/21/2023

11-year-old Diana was a princess on the hidden island of Themyscira which was inhabited by immortal women. The Queen, who was longing for a child, created Diana miraculously out of clay. She was bored and lonely because she was the only kid of the Queen of the Amazons. She was too old for her dolls but too young for warrior training. When Diana tries to be more self-reliant, the queen tells her she isn't living up to the Amazonian standards!

Until, ultimately, Diana finds an unanticipated friend from a piece of clay, Mona. At first, this friend was everything Diana had been waiting for. However, Mona leads her into serious trouble! Diana makes a lot of bad decisions that could put the Amazon in danger.

This book is a wonderful introduction to the world of DC characters, but in a way that is suitable for younger readers. The story teaches about faith, vigor, and friendship.

The text is simple enough for emerging readers especially, the upper elementary and middle-grade kids. This graphic novel helps them connect the words to the images, and hence, read more easily. However, it is engaging for older readers as well and the story keeps moving at a good pace for them. The illustrations are adorable but at the same time bold, full of life, and energetic, very similar to Wonder Woman comics. Percy Jackson or Kate O'Hearn enthusiasts will be able to enjoy similar mythology in this book and kids who have not reached that level will get a starter with this book.
