Title: Aven Green Baking Machine (Aven Green book 2)
Author: Dusti Bowling
Illustration: Gina Perry
Publisher: Union Square Kids
Aven has been accompanying her mother during baking and she has become a skilled baker. She wants to enter a contest at the fair with her 3 best friends. However, her 3 friends have different tastes and opinions about baking. This dilemma prevents Aven from entering the contest unless she finds a way to make everything work among them.
Aven is very outspoken which gets her into lots of trouble. She always complains about everything and behaves rudely to people around her. Only when her mother reminded her to be kind to others, did she learn a lesson. She learns that we should never think or speak negatively about something before giving it a try!
- Short chapters with adequate and supporting illustrations make this an easy chapter book even for reluctant readers.
- Included in this story is an element of cultural diversity through Aven's exotic recipes. The complete recipes are included at the end of the book for the readers to try out.
- Aven's courageous, determined, confident, and ambitious nature is a great source of encouragement for kids.
- This would be a great read for elementary to middle-grade kids.
